Swim Level Progression

Our swimming program is founded on 10 stages of skills progression and water safety skills within the pool. Advancement throughout these stages are determined based on our philosophy of ensuring that each student is evaluated and deemed competent in all areas before progressing to the next stage.

    • Assisted monkey hold
    • Voluntary arm and leg movements
    • Assisted back float on mat
    • Get face wet
  • Seahorse
    • Voluntary monkey hold
    • Enter and exit water safely
    • Assisted glide forward
    • Get completely immersed
    • Assisted back float in water
    • Assisted turnaround
    • Assisted humpty dumpty (Crocodile)
  • Stingray
    • Swimming without breathing for 3m
    • Open eyes and identify objects
    • Basic digging arms
    • Independent back float with noodle for 10 seconds
    • Voluntary turnaround
    • Voluntary humpty dumpty (Crocodile)
  • Turtle Level 1
    • Glide forward face down in streamline
    • Swimming 5m with breathing (2 Easy breaths)
    • Back float with kickboard for 30 seconds
    • Star float on front and back for 5 seconds
    • Kick 5m with kickboard on front and back
  • Seal Level 2
    • Kick 3m without aid (Torpedo)
    • Kick 3m on back without aid
    • Swim 5m rolling onto front then back
    • Swim 5m with big arms
    • Swim 5m of breaststroke arms (Pizza arms)
    • Swim through submerged obstacle
    • Seated dive
  • Dolphin Level 3
    • Swim 10m of bubble, breathe catch-up
    • Swim 5m basic backstroke
    • Glide using breaststroke kick (Dorsi Flexion)
    • Kneeling Dive
    • Duck dive and recover object from 1.2m deep
    • Step in entry
  • Shark Level 4
    • Swim 15m freestyle with bilateral breathing catch-up
    • Swim 10m backstroke with straight arms
    • Swim 10m of breaststroke with scooping arms
    • Swim 10m of Dolphin kick
    • Crouch Dive
    • Forward somersault
  • Barracuda Level 5
    • Swim 25 of bilateral breathing long stroke freestyle (Full freestyle)
    • Swim 25m backstroke with continuous arm action
    • Swim 25m breaststroke with correct timing (Pull, breathe, kick, glide)
    • Attempt 15m of butterfly with symmetrical arms
    • Standing dive from wall
    • Backward Somersault
    • Freestyle tumble turn
  • Orca Level 6
    (Development Squad/Mini Squad)
    • Swim 50m freestyle with high elbow recovery
    • Swim 50m backstroke with shoulder rotation
    • Swim 50m breaststroke with pull out
    • Swim 15m of butterfly with correct timing
    • Dive from the starting block
    • Scull head first on back
