About the Program

Kids Swimming Lessons at Marsden

Our swimming lessons for kids are specially designed for children aged 4 years and up. Marsden provides a fun and engaging environment where every child enjoys their swimming class while learning the fundamentals and building a strong foundation in water safety.

Level Range

Kids classes cover Levels 5 to 10: Seal, Dolphin, Shark, Barracuda, Orca, and Manta Ray. Advanced swimmers can move into our competitive Squad program.

Skill-Based Progression

Advancement is based on individual skill mastery, not age. A confident 5-year-old and a returning 7-year-old might be at different levels, both progressing at their own right pace.

Independent Class Format

Unlike our infant and toddler classes (which are parent-assisted), kids classes are led directly by our AUSTSWIM coaches. Parents are welcome to observe from a designated area.

Benefits

Benefits of Swimming Lessons for Kids Aged 4 and Up

Our swimming classes for kids offer benefits that extend far beyond the pool.

Building Confidence and Independence

Enrolling your child in swimming lessons builds real confidence in the water. As they progress through our classes, children learn to navigate the aquatic environment safely and effectively, developing self-esteem that translates to other areas of their lives.

Motor Skills and Physical Coordination

Swimming lessons develop motor skills and physical coordination. The various strokes and techniques taught in our swimming classes help improve children’s strength, flexibility, and balance across all four competitive strokes.

Healthy Lifestyle Habits Early

Introducing swimming classes at a young age helps children develop healthy lifestyle habits. Regular participation instills the importance of exercise and its positive impact on both physical and mental health.

Reducing Drowning Risk

One of the most crucial benefits of swimming lessons is genuine reduction in drowning risk. Our swimming classes prioritise water safety education, equipping children with essential skills to stay safe in and around water.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Swimming Classes for Kids

What should my child bring to swim class?

For kids aged 4 years and up, a swimsuit, towel, and goggles are the basic items. It’s also a good idea to pack a swim cap and a change of clothes for after the lesson. For infants and toddlers, swim diapers are essential.

How long does it take to learn basic swimming?

The timeframe for learning to swim varies from child to child, depending on their individual abilities and comfort level in the water. With consistent swimming lessons, many kids can learn basic swimming skills in about six months. See our guide on how long it takes to learn swimming for more detail.

Can I stay and watch the lessons?

Parental presence is required for infant and toddler swimming classes. For older children’s classes, parents are welcome to observe from a designated safe distance. This lets kids focus while ensuring parents can still watch their progress.

Do you offer trial classes?

Yes, we offer paid trial swimming classes for kids. This lets us assess your child’s level and ensure proper class placement. The trial fee is waived if you enrol in our kids’ swimming lesson program. Book a trial to get started.

What happens if my child is afraid of water?

Our instructors are experienced in working with children who are anxious about the water. We use gentle, patient techniques in every class to help kids build confidence gradually, prioritising a safe and supportive environment for every child.
