About the Program

Baby Swim Classes: Everything You Need to Know About Infant Swimming (4 Months to 4 Years)

Our swim program is thoughtfully designed for infants and toddlers aged 4 months through 4 years. Every child progresses through our proven 10-level competency-based system, advancing based on skill mastery, not age.

Our Levels

Starfish, Seahorse, Stingray, Turtle, Seal, Dolphin, Shark, Barracuda, Orca, and Manta Ray. Infant and toddler classes cover Levels 1 to 4 (Starfish to Turtle).

How It Works

Your child starts where they’re ready, progresses when they’ve mastered each skill, and moves at their own pace. An 18-month-old might sit at Seahorse level while another toddler is at Stingray. Both are on track.

Why Start Early

Early water exposure builds foundational confidence, reduces water anxiety, and establishes lifelong safety awareness, protective skills critical in Singapore’s aquatic environment.

Benefits

How Infant Swim Classes Build Confidence and Safety

Baby and toddler swim lessons deliver developmental benefits beyond just learning to swim.

Motor Skill Enhancement

Swimming promotes muscle strength, balance, and coordination, helping infants build strong motor skills from an early age. Water’s buoyancy lets young swimmers move freely, developing strength without strain.

Water Safety Skills

Through guided instruction, infants learn breath control, safe water entry, floating, and reaching the pool’s edge, building confidence and awareness in water. In Singapore, water safety is not optional, it’s essential.

Parent-Child Bonding

Baby swimming lessons provide quality one-on-one time, deepening emotional connections between parent and infant through shared play, touch, and communication in the water. You’re not just learning to swim, you’re building trust and connection.

Curriculum

Infant Swimming Course Skills

Common Questions

Baby Swim Classes: Common Questions

Do parents need to be in the water with their baby?

Yes. At Marsden Swim School, parental participation is essential for children aged 4 months to 4 years. We believe parents are the best initial teachers. Our coaches work closely with you, providing guidance to help you teach your child confidently while ensuring a fun and positive bonding experience.

What should I bring to an infant swim class?

To ensure a comfortable session, please bring a swim diaper, a towel, and a change of clothes for both the parent and the child. You may also bring any personal items that help your child feel secure after the lesson.

How long is each swim lesson for infants?

Each session lasts 30 minutes. This duration is the sweet spot for infants and toddlers, providing the perfect balance of skill-building, play, and rest without over-tiring your child.

What if my child cries during the swimming class?

It is completely normal for young children to cry occasionally as they adjust to the water. Our AUSTSWIM-certified instructors are specially trained to use gentle reassurance and engagement techniques to build trust and independence over time.

Are the pools heated and child-friendly?

Yes. We prioritise your child’s comfort by using indoor heated swimming pools maintained at a soothing temperature. This ensures a safe and warm environment, making the learning experience much more enjoyable for infants and toddlers.

How does the 10-level progression system work?

As Singapore’s exclusive Gold Standard AUSTSWIM-accredited school, we use a structured 10-level progression system.
